Param Vir
“Vir has that born opera composer's essential knack of imbuing character and a sense of narrative urgency into a few bars or turns of phrase” The Guardian
Param Vir was born in Delhi and is now at the forefront of classical contemporary music. With a background in photography and a creative parentage, Vir’s natural inclination towards creative energy has led him to be a prolific and highly regarded composer; from seminal orchestral pieces such as Horse Tooth White Rock to operas such as the highly acclaimed double bill Snatched by the Gods and Broken Strings directed by Pierre Audi, Vir has continued to demonstrate his startling versatility and natural aptitude for writing vastly different pieces of music.
The recipient of many awards, Vir has won such notable prizes as the Tippett Award and the Britten Prize. Vir’s inspiration is drawn from as varied sources as his numerous accolades, rooted deeply in literary mythology and spirituality. Not wanting to be stereotyped, Vir has worked extensively to incorporate classical Indian music into, not only contemporary British music, but the world of music in general and he continues to make an impact.
